After
phylloxera infected the territory, Henri produced the first grafted
vines at the end of the 19th century, in Beaumes de Venise, a small
town in Provence. Then, thanks to Léon, our company set up
shop in Sarrians in 1920. Léon's two sons, Henri and Jean,
joined him in 1950.
Since
the 1970s, Michel and Pascale have been carrying on his work.
Today,
Jean-Christophe has joined the team. Boosted by its one-century
experience, the CHAUVIN vine nursery is ready to share its talent
with you and help you carry out your vine-growing projects.
At
the end of the 19th century, phylloxera was brought to France by
boat from North America. It almost completely destroyed the French
vineyard, except for submersible areas.
Grafting
Vitis Vinifera on American phylloxera-resistant Vitis rootstocks
was the only way to save European viticulture and Vitis Vinifera
varieties.
