MUSCAT D’ALEXANDRIE (White)

Budding: Quite late, i.e. more than a week after Chasselas.

Ripeness: 4th stage, 6 to 8 week after Chasselas (i.e. end of September or beginning of October).

Vigor: High. Light pruning is required to keep its vigor under control.

Production: High (3 to 4 kilograms per vine-stock). Medium, cylindro-conical, winged and straggly bunches of grapes. Ellipsoidal, large/very large, white to yellowish grapes. Fairly thin skin. Fleshy pulp. Musky savor.

Conclusion: Muscat d’Alexandrie is a very beautiful and musky table-grape variety. It also produces very good raisins in Spain (Malaga raisins). This is the consumers’ all-time favorite white variety.
